Siódmy studyjny album Green Day „American Idiot” został wydany we wrześniu 2004 roku i od tego czasu sprzedał się w ponad 23 milionach egzemplarzy na całym świecie, w tym 9 milionów w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Album jest arcydziełem punk rocka, które zdobyło nagrodę dla najlepszego albumu rockowego podczas rozdania nagród Grammy w 2005 roku©. Z albumu wydano pięć przebojowych singli: „Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, »Holiday«, »Wake Me Up When September Ends«, »Jesus of Suburbia« oraz tytułowy »American Idiot«.
Limitowana edycja Super Deluxe Box Sets (winyl i CD) zostanie wydana 4 października 2024 roku, aby uczcić 20. rocznicę wydania tego legendarnego albumu.
Oprócz oryginalnego albumu, ten super deluxe box zawiera 15 niewydanych nagrań demo, 15 utworów z koncertu z 2004 roku z Irving Plaza w Nowym Jorku (9 utworów wcześniej niewydanych) oraz 15 utworów, które zostały wydane jako B-Sides i utwory bonusowe. Zestaw pudełkowy uzupełniają dwa Blu-ray, które zawierają film „Heart Like A Hand Grenade”, 35 minut Green Day na żywo w BBC oraz nowy, niepublikowany dokument: „20 Years of American Idiot”.
